Within Temptation are back with a fresh new single titled “Entertain You”. Listen to it below.
As originally planned, The Dutch band was supposed to release a new single to hype up their co-headline tour with Evanescence but not even the corona outbreak, which lead to the tour postponement, could’ve stopped them from dropping it. Despite everything, Within Temptation decided to surprise their fans with a brand new track while they’re waiting for “The Worlds Collide” tour – only a year after the release of their seventh studio album “Resist”. And they plan on dropping more singles in the near future, too.
The vocalist Sharon den Adel has recently spoken to Metal Hammer, revealing: “We’re going to release a few singles every year – at least this year and next year, and then we’re going to drop the album.” She continued: “It’s more about giving our fans something new every few months. It’s just different from how most people are doing it. We just wanted to give people new music earlier than they expected from us, and there is more to come.” And the goal is to release at least three singles before another full-length.
With the new single, the band continues to develop their “Resist” sound and brings even fresher elements to the table. Next to releasing the song completely independently, “Entertain You” also features mysterious male vocals. While all fans associated the voice with the band’s guitarist Stefan Helleblad, it’s in fact Within Temptation’s long-time producer Daniel Gibson singing, as Sharon has revealed for Metal Hammer. “He has an amazing voice. He’s very modest and actually quite a shy guy,” she said about Daniel who’s been working with the band since their 2004’s album “The Silent Force”.
Sharon on the song’s meaning for Dutch magazine Parool: [It’s] “about people not being born to entertain you. We seem to find it increasingly normal that you film or photograph the people around you at any given moment. There are countless videos on the internet of people who did not realize that they were being recorded and which we all laugh at. That is something that we as a society can really think about.”
On the other hand, “the song is also about the freedom to express yourself in any way. When we are on stage, we do it because we want to play our music. There may be an entertainment content, but that is a side issue for us. The song is about all those situations where you could scream at someone that you are not there for their pleasure.”
