Symphonic progressive metal group Surma have signed a worldwide deal with Metal Blade Records. Their debut will drop in 2020.
The band was founded in 2018 by Czech vocalist Viktorie Surmová (Bohemian Metal Rhapsody) and Faroese musician and vocalist Heri Joensen (Týr). Surma combines symphonic, progressive and heavy metal elements, that will be heard on their debut effort scheduled for a release in 2020.
The band comments: “We are overjoyed to announce that we have signed a contract with Metal Blade Records for three albums. We have been working on the music for a year now and we are very satisfied with the results. We take this great opportunity very seriously and we look forward to unleashing our music upon the world.”
Viktorie Surmová has studied classical music at ArtEZ Conservatory in the Netherlands and at Deylova classical conservatory in Prague. She’s a member of the theatre ensemble of Divadlo Na Vinohradech in Prague and collaborated with many bands, including Czech band Rosa Nocturna, Cruadalach and others. Viktorie was a founding member, lead singer and songwriter in the Czech band Surmata. Since 2018, she’s been a part of popular Czech metal project Bohemian Metal Rhapsody.
Heri is a Faroese musician educated at The Alternative Rhythmic Conservatory (D.A.R.K.) in Copenhagen, known mainly as a vocalist and guitarist of folk metal band Týr. Starting in 2002, Heri has released 8 studio albums with Týr and one with his side project, Heljareyga. He was also featured on records by Ensiferum, Wintersun and Alestorm.
