Song challenge: Anabelle Iratni (Cradle Of Filth, Devilment, Veile)

SONG CHALLENGE (5)

Anabelle Iratni is a UK-based classically trained mezzo-soprano with a Bachelor’s degree in Music and a Master of the Arts Degree in Music. Anabelle started out with music as a small kid, singing in choirs and performing with school orchestra. Besides singing, her instruments of choice are violin, piano and modern lyre. Since 2017, Anabelle’s been working on her own blackened horror metal project Veile and joined gothic/groove metal act Devilment in 2018. Earlier this year, it was revealed she’s also joined the Cradle Of Filth family as their new keyboardist and vocalist. Find out more about Anebelle and her music taste below.

A song that features your favourite stringed instrument: Eluveitie- Meet The Enemy
  • “My love for the hammered dulcimer is how I came to play the modern lyre: I was shopping for a dulcimer but they’re really expensive, so instead, I went for the cheapest string instrument I could find at the time- a small lyre! Alas, it was meant to be. Maybe one day I will live my hammered dulcimer playing fantasy…”

A song that gives you a sense of wanderlust: Wardruna – Helvegen
  • “After completing my Music Bachelor’s degree, I embarked upon a round-trip of Scandinavia where I played the album, Runaljod – Yggdrasil, on repeat. I remember gallivanting across the vast picturesque mountains of Norway, feeling both closer to the surroundings and the music. There was a timelessness and a beauty that felt unattainable yet so vivid.”

A song that you like to sing in the shower: Mozart – Voi che sapete from Le nozze di Figaro
  • “The reverb is fantastic in my bathroom, so I always take full advantage to practice some of my favourite arias and choral pieces from my repertoire! A trip down memory lane as well as an excellent vocal workout.”

A song that captures your alter-ego: Behemoth – Ov Fire and the Void
  • “I play this when I’m in my ‘the almighty dark goddess rising from the ashes to claim the world as her own’ mood! If you ever see me strolling down the street with a face like thunder, you can guarantee I’ll be listening to this track to fuel my badass fire… I’m a very nice person really, I promise!”

A song that was your introduction to the world of extreme metal: Bloodbath – Hades Rising
  • “This song was one I would play on repeat quite a bit! I would scour the darkest depths of the internet to find the most obscure and extreme metal out there. My playlist would consist of bands with bizarre spellings that will send my autocorrect into overdrive.”

First song that you ever performed with Cradle Of Filth – Cthulhu Dawn
  • “This was the first song we performed for our live stream show on May 12th, which was also my debut. It was perfect for me to have a chance to ‘let it rip’ with my classical vocals, and in my mid-range too (where I personally like my voice best). I’m very glad this song was my first impression to fans!”
