Canadian Celtic/symphonic fantasy metal singer and songwriter LEAH (Leah McHenry), announces new Celtic & fantasy-inspired holiday album “Ancient Winter”. Find details below.
“The idea came to me in January of this year. A friend mentioned that I really should do a Christmas-type album, and since I had heard that request so many times, it really solidified the idea in my mind,” she explains how the idea for this album came together.
LEAH describes the music on “Ancient Winter” as “Celtic, Worldly, Folk, with a lot of Fantasy and Medieval vibes”. It features 8 songs; 5 original and 3 traditional pieces. “When I say traditional, I don’t mean “O Holy Night” or “O Christmas Tree”. I’m talking medieval 13th & 14th century songs,” specifies McHenry. “I’ve put my own unique twist on them, I really love how they turned out!”
Of course, LEAH’s new album wouldn’t be complete without some guest musicians adding “something very very special to each song. The minute I heard what they did I had goosebumps all over, and I think you will too.” Among others, “Ancient Winter” features the work of Anna Murphy (Cellar Darling, ex-Eluveitie), Troy Donockley (Nightwish) and Shir-Ran Yinon (ex-Eluveitie, Haggard).
For the artwork, she worked once again with Jan Yrlund of Darkgrove Studios. “The artwork for “Ancient Winter” was inspired by the whole mood and vibe of the album. I wanted to give the feeling of epic fantasy landscapes while also feeling like you just found “home”… the place you could stay forever and have epic feasts with your favorite people.” You can see the cover and tracklist below.
