Meet Cobra Spell – Sonia “Anubis” Nusselder’s new 80’s-influenced band

After leaving Burning Witches and forming death metal fourpiece Crypta with ex-Nervosa members earlier this year, Dutch guitarist Sonia “Anubis” Nusselder unveils more details about her new hard rock/heavy metal group Cobra Spell. Read more below.

106187724_661836361212279_3563302311780280426_oCobra Spell is a European/American heavy rock/metal band influenced by the Golden Era sound of the 80’s. Created in the summer of 2019 by Sonia Anubis (Crypta, ex-Burning Witches) and Sebastian “Spyder” Silva (Idle Hands, Silver Talon, ex-Spellcaster).  Anxiously wanting to start a band together, their dreams were only driven further when the guitar duo met Alice Cooper and he advised them to follow their dreams of making music together.

The band’s lineup include Alexx Panza (Hitten, Jack’Starr’s Burning Starr) on vocals, Angelina Vehera on bass and Mike “Lucas” Verhof (Blacksteen Yngwie Malmsteen/Rainbow tribute) on drums.

Sonia and Sebastian set out to write hook driven songs with flamboyant guitar extravaganza, unique stage looks and crazy on stage antics. Cobra Spell will take you back in time where rock bands ruled the arenas, the hairspray and spandex overflowed the audience, and the airwaves blazed with the sound of big guitars.

The pieces of the puzzle are slowly but surely coming together with the band’s debut on the way. Meanwhile, the band comments on their logo: “For the logo of Cobra Spell we wanted to incapsulate the 80s imagery and aesthetic, something sharp, shiny and over the top to express our identity. We decided also to add the head of a cobra, to give it that touch of authenticity to our name. To make this reality we asked the very talented Daniel Porta. He created numerous iconic heavy metal logos and we couldn’t think of anyone else other than him!”

The band is currently recording their debut EP so stay tuned for more Cobra Spell news!
