Sonia “Anubis” Nusselder parts ways with Burning Witches

Dutch musician Sonia “Anubis” Nusselder has parted ways with Swiss heavy metal band Burning Witches fo personal reasons, as well as in order to focus on her other two bands. Read more details below.

Best known as a guitar player for Burning Witches, Nusselder is also a bassist, composer and guitar teacher. She joined the Swiss heavy metal in 2018 and managed to release two studio albums and one EP as their guitarist. After 2,5 years in their ranks, Nusselder now reveals the news of going separate way.

“For personal reasons and with a lot of deliberation, I have decided to fully dedicate myself to CRYPTA and COBRA SPELL and to leave BURNING WITCHES,” she posted on her social media.

Nusselder decided to drop the news only a few days after she announced her new death metal band Crypta with former Nervosa members Fernanda Lira and Luana Dametto, stressing that her “new bands were not the main reason why I left.” She explained: “These side-bands were existent for over a year… Personal reasons and indifferences in the band lead to this decision. And for that, my path really had to take a different direction from their path.”

“This is was a very hard decision, but sometimes you can’t pursue a bigger dream, without giving up a meaningful one in return. I will continue my musical path with full passion for music and for the fans! This is just the beginning!” she ensured her fans and confirmed that the debut release of her heavy metal band Cobra Spell will arrive this year, with the line-up announcement coming in the upcoming days. So, don’t forget to follow Sonia on her new adventure with both, Crypta and Cobra Spell. More news about both bands to come soon.

Burning Witches comment on the situation: “Sonia has left us for her new project. We saw this coming and we have to accept it. People change and people move on. We wish her all the best! For us, as a band, this means we have to work harder. We will continue our path and will, of course, look for a new Witch!” The band will use the current corona-situation to find Sonia’s replacement. Also, their “Live from the studio” session with special guests on May 29th is still on, so don’t forget to tune in!
