Symphonic queen Tarja Turunen is back with her fifth rock album. It’s titled “In The Raw” and will be released on August 30 via earMUSIC. See the details including tracklist and cover artwork below.
The theme of the new album and Tarja’s aesthetic was inspired by gold and the saying “not all that glitters is gold”. She explains: “Gold, we think, is something polished and perfect, sophisticated, a luxury – but in its natural state it’s a raw element”. Finnish singer worked with the same team of musicians and production personnel as on her previous record, however, this time the focus is on the raw feelings, both musically and lyrically. “In The Raw” presents Tarja in a new light – exceptionally honest, personal and raw form.
Earlier this week, Tarja dropped the first taste of new music – a lyric video for album’s opening song “Dead Promises”. The album version of the track will feature guest vocals from Soilwork’s Bjorn “Speed” Strid. “I really like how the guitar sounds: in your face,” Tarja comments on the new single. “If I’m singing powerfully, I need something powerful behind me so that I don’t feel like I am left alone.”
As usual, Turunen has more tricks up here sleeve, and Swedish melodic death metal band’s frontman is not the only guest on the album. Lacuna Coil’s Cristina Scabbia and Kamelot’s Tommy Karevik join the classically trained singer on “Goodbye Stranger” and “Silent Masquerade”.
