Maja Shining, the vocalist of Danish alternative metal act Forever Still, has released a cover of Myrkur’s enchanting piece “Ella”. Listen to Maja’s rendition below.
Maja comments: “Over the years I’ve heard time and time again that you’d love to hear me sing something in my own language. Luckily, Myrkur makes some really awesome music with several songs in Danish (if you haven’t listened to her album “Mareridt” ～ “Nightmare”, go do that right now). Ella here is my absolute favourite track off the “Folkesange” (folk songs) album.”
The song is originally taken from Myrkur’s folk album “Folkesange” that came out this March. The album is a result of “years of studying, playing and listening to traditional Nordic folk music.” Myrkur says: “This is my version of a new folk-song, with roots planted in history and in the past. It is my ode to mankind and our connection with nature – a rite of passage as a woman and a rebirth-ritual in the sea.”
