Within Temptation – The Purge (Music Video)

Dutch band Within Temptation presents a mysterious video for their latest single “The Purge”. Watch it below.

This year in May, the band released the first stand-alone single “Entertain You”, followed by “The Purge” in the second half of November. Speaking to Metal Hammer, the vocalist Sharon den Adel revealed: “We’re going to release a few singles every year – at least this year and next year, and then we’re going to drop the album.”  She continued: “It’s more about giving our fans something new every few months. It’s just different from how most people are doing it. We just wanted to give people new music earlier than they expected from us, and there is more to come.”

The band describes the single as “a heavy kick ass song with that old school Within Temptation vibe .” Sharon on the meaning of the song: “‘The Purge’ revolves around self-reflection and a search for redemption. No one gets through life without scars or without inflicting them on others and there will always be moments in your life you start questioning your choices. You start realizing you’ve made mistakes, causing harm to not only others but also to yourself. To confess, to acknowledge and to accept these mistakes, can be a very painful process – however, unescapable when the burden becomes too heavy.”

With the new video, the band goes back to their darker, gothic roots. As noticed by their fans, the music video resembles several moments from Within Temptation’s older video clips such as “Mother Earth”, “Stand My Ground” or “The Howling”. The scenario for the video was written by Within Temptation’s co-founder and guitarist Robert Westerholt, who’s been working mostly behind the scenes as a studio member, songwriter and producer since 2011.
